Special Vehicle Provisions
grandfather Rights
Indiana retains pre-1975 weight limits on state/local roads. Maximum gross weight under grandfather law is 73,280 lbs with tandem axle max of 16,000 lbs each.
agriculture
Farm commodity exemption: vehicles transporting farm commodities (logs, wood chips, bulk milk, etc.) from production to first delivery point allowed 10% additional weight (88,000 lbs). Not applicable on interstates or weight-restricted bridges.

waste Trucks
Refuse and recycling vehicles (with self-compactor or detachable container) exempt from standard weight limits except on interstates.
Single Axle: 24,000 lbs
Tandem Axle: 42,000 lbs
construction
Highway construction/maintenance equipment, farm drainage machinery, and implements of husbandry are exempt from weight limits on all roads except interstates.
dump Trucks
Indiana dump truck limits on non-interstate roads. Farm commodity 10% exemption may apply to construction material hauling in some cases.
